About the Role
Looking for experienced cooks for our fast paced brunch service. This is a great position for someone who likes to work in the morning and who wants to grow their knowledge of cooking methods and techniques. At Bread & Friends, almost everything is made from scratch, from the pastrami made in our offset smoker to the butter that we culture and whip to serve alongside freshly baked baguettes and house-made jam. We pride ourselves on our unique variety of delicious breakfast offerings that you can’t find anywhere else. It is our hope to hire a candidate that shares a passion for attention to detail and a hunger to keep learning everyday.
Cooks will be working alongside our Chef/Owner who most recently was the CDC of James Beard award winning and Michelin starred restaurant, The Progress, in San Francisco. In the fall of 2023 he was recognized as a Coastal New England Rising Star by Star Chefs for his food at Bread & Friends.
Looking for a cook with at least one year experience who is looking to build upon what they already know and is eager to learn more. Various techniques and methods of cooking from curing to brining, fermenting to pickling, among various other methods of food processing will be used on a daily basis during brunch service.
Shifts are approx. 9-10 hours and begin at 5AM and end between 2PM and 3PM.

Requirements
▹ Managing a clean and organized station to the standards of the Executive Chef.
▹ Understanding ticket/order calls and priority of those orders
▹ Proper execution of dishes on your station as shown to you
▹ Working as a team with your fellow line cooks/chefs
▹ Working with a sense of urgency throughout the shift
▹ Upholding high standards for yourself and others
▹ Executing timely preparation of dishes through:
▹ The ability to understand and create detailed prep lists.
▹ Learning and understanding recipes, including knowledge of the correct pars and shelf life of ingredients.
▹ Having sharp knives that enable you to work efficiently.
▹ Learning / Understanding:
▹ Product handling, care and storage
▹ Proper knife cuts
▹ Cooking techniques as demonstrated by the Executive Chef
About the Company
Bread & Friends is a bakery and daytime restaurant on Fore Street, in the Old Port neighborhood of Portland; our mission is to foster community through delicious food that is meant to be shared. Naturally leavened bread, artisan pastry, and an elevated brunch menu form the core of the B&F experience, complemented by a craft coffee program and a small wine and beer selection.
Bread & Friends is open 7 days a week from 8am-1pm. We are currently seeking one full time hire for our pastry team.
